No Go
Bought a code reader, says main power to DME.
I do have spark, and fuel pressure, but no go...
Bit worried about the CAS gearwheel on the balancer, all signs are pointing that way, it'd had a bit of a scrape, nothing much more than a few scratches...
What about distance for the CAS? Simple plug and play, they don't seem to have any means for adjusting them.
Bought OEM item for $42 US, no go, so 'borrowed a new one $329 no go...
Replaced all 3 relays, no go.
Can get a DME out of a trashed 540i, but not keen on taking it to the shop and paying top $ for parts...
\Any insights into this would be greatly appreciated.

E30 at Pickapart Hamilton

Just went in today and there was a 1.8L Auto F/L E30 Sedan there. Was in pretty good nick. I took the door trims and some small bits I wanted.

The seats are the normal boring ones but were pretty good, no rips etc. Interior still complete except for door trims. And the dashboard is f--ked. Front valance was stoved in and passengerside spotlight smashed.

Anybody after something? I am going back tomorrow so can check if what you need is there (give me your cell # so I can text you). PAP prices are WAY cheap, I got the door trims for $7each compared to $30ea at a wreckers. So let me know. As for mechanical parts and anything that usually needs "checking" cannot be checked so are sold asis by PAP - Im sure everyone knows how they work.

I dont know how long the car will sit there for, by the looks I am the first person to touch it but once the word gets out, who knows.

Also, if you're local to Hamilton then go have a look - I am just posting this for outa towners who cant just go look

E36 Temperature gauge issue.

On my car I have the stock E36 temperature gauge sensor fitted inline with a coolant pipe & wired to the corresponding wires running to the dash cluster.

The trouble is as the engine warms the temperature needle doesn't rise with it, even when its at normal operating temperature, it just sits there and remains cold, however when the power is removed from the battery terminal, and put back on, the gauge suddenly starts reading the resistance of the sensor and reads in the middle of the gauge, where one would expect the temperature to be.

But then as it cools, the gauge comes down, however if the engines started and heated up again, the needle will not climb... unless I disconnect the power, then it jumps back up to the warmer temperature reading.

Any idea why the temp gauge needle would not be rising with constant power until its interrupted and put back on?

The sensor is working fine, all tested and the resistances are right, I've even tried another off another E36 and it gives the same result.

Upon testing the dash by holding the ODO button and turning the key to 'ign' it performs the gauge test and the temperature needle rises and falls.

Any help would be great! Obviously it has something to do with my engine conversion, but I can't understand what...

Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes."

WOMAN: "I'm at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $2,000; is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "$90,000."

MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing... I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $980,000 for it."

MAN: "Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000. They'll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it's what you really want."

WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!"

MAN: "Bye! I love you, too."

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.

He turns and asks, "Anyone know who's phone this is?"

Factory 2nd's, Damaged in Transit.. page now up *BARGAINS*

Hey guys,

Importing products can be great and sometimes annoying, from time to time an item or items can get squashed or beaten up as we call it and this can be due to the packing from the factory, flight or sea conditions on the way over here or rough handling by customs or couriers once its arrived or the supplier/manufacturer might have a batch of factory 2nd's and they slip one or 2 into your order and then claim "we knew nothing about it and it won't happen again" **Tui Ad moment - Yeah Right**, hehe

So we have received a few over the time and generally put them aside and either sell them to fiends etc who don't mind a small scratch or scrape on their product or use them ourselves....... BUT we thought why not make a page on our website and let you also take advantage of the odd bargain - Always thinking of other people, lol

There's big brand gear (TiAL, Tomei...) and products like catch cans, carbon goodies, cam gears.....on there so check out the page and let us know if there's any product/s of interest to you, also re-check it every now and again as we will keep putting up items as we receive them or we just have a product thats been discontinued/end of line etc etc.

http://www.pro-wholesale.co.nz/factory-2nd...learance-items/

Cheers
Brendon

I'm thinking of buying some new sway bars for my e30 and from what i can tell, Bimmerworlds own kit Link appears like the best for price and quality. Im pretty set on a 22mm/19mm setup, and theirs looks like the nicest kit using those size bars. Has anyone got their kit? I'd be interested to know if its as good as it looks in terms of quality. H&R's bars look the most professional to me, but are soo much more expensive than competitors.

In terms of quality, what have other people found from other kits?
Just going from pictures, it looks like some(Ireland engineering for example) are a bit rough and use average quality components.

Cheers

How do I force my BMW E39 GPS to acquire satellites

GPS has been working fine since I have had the car but on the last 2 trips it has completely failed to get a lock on any satellites. It keeps thinking I am starting out somewhere where it seems to have been last used successfully and now keeps telling me "Return to the Planned Route"

How can I make it re-aqcuire the GPS Satellites?

If it is going to involve a major repair then it might be time to think about upgrading to the big screen version version (Mk11?).
Hi all,

I've recently purchased my first BMW after owning a number of Hondas (and an Audi A6 - don't hold that against me, it was a horrible vehicle and I was quite young at the time).

Long time fan - many of the family have/had BMW's of all descriptions, and with my wife now working at BMW I thought I'd join the ranks.

I'm based in Auckland, and have been a regular on the NZHonda forum from 2002. There's a chance I have met a number of you over the past few years in WGTN or AKL through family connections and/or race days, so I welcome the opportunity to reintroduce myself and the chance to become part of the BMW community.

I look forward to learning more about the community and meeting with you all in time.

Cheers,
Christian

Dent in the bottom of the drivers door and a couple of small car park scratches else the red paint looks amazing. Comes on original SE Alloys bought some M5 wheels to put on it but took them off as ride was to rough for post-earthquake Christchurch (negotiable if you want these too).
Original kidney grilles were stolen from my work carpark so have replaced with black ones (suit the red better)

Has been very well looked after and interior is in very good shape - Full black leather with electric seats.
Has pioneer Head unit with ipod connectivity, 2 Sony 5" speakers in the rear 4" fusions in the door and factory tweeters and front 5"

A real pleasure to drive and i am going to be truly sad to see it go.
Help with e39 sucking air/overheating

Hi, I have a 1996 520i e39 and I just sold it, but it keeps overheating for the new owner.
I'll spare the long story, but so far:

cleaned the radiator
changed the thermostat
replaced waterpump
checked viscous fan
bled it 10000 times
replaced and tightened hoses and clamps
vacuum pressure tested to get the air out

Whats happening now is it will run fine for days, even a week or two, then overheat. Other then that it runs fine normally. It will only overheat when the engine is under pressure, when it idles its fine, if it starts to overheat and you pull over and idle, it goes back to 1/2 way.
No water in the oil, it isn't missing etc.
All I believe it is still just an air leak somewhere, but this is costing $ and I'd like to know if this has happened to anyone else.

I'm at my wits end, every week this car is coming back to me and I feel really bad.

Any help would be most appreciated thanks!

The firm did not disclose the cause of death. A post on his Facebook page last month revealed he had been hospitalised for pneumonia.

Shelby was one of the few prominent designers to work with all three major American car companies, starting with Ford Motor Co in the 1960s. His last collaboration with Ford was on the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500.

Shelby's high-performance cars helped Detroit challenge the dominance of the Europeans in racing. Ralph Gilles, head of product design for Chrysler, said Shelby created cars that helped enthusiasts worldwide find "joy and self-actualisation."
